Openers That Predate Modern Safety Requirements
Many original Sun City openers were installed before photo-eye safety sensors were required. Those sensors are the pair of small units near the floor on either side of the opening that stop and reverse the door when something crosses the beam.

On a system that old, the mechanical auto-reverse that was supposed to serve that function has usually drifted well out of adjustment. Extension Springs From the 1960s and 70s
Doors of this vintage frequently run extension springs, the long springs stretched along the horizontal tracks. Many were installed before containment cables became standard practice. A containment cable runs through the spring so that if it breaks, the pieces stay on the cable instead of crossing the garage.
If you can see long springs along your ceiling and no cable threaded through them, that is worth addressing whether or not anything has failed yet. Adding containment is inexpensive. Converting to a torsion system is the more complete answer on a door that is due for other work anyway.
